Sarah is a person of Scottish, Scandinavian, and Irish descent who grew up in Castlegreen Housing Co-operative and now sits on the Board of the Cooperative Housing Federation of Canada. Over the last decade, they have worked as a co-op educator, advocate and community engagement coordinator locally, nationally and internationally. They grew up in Thunder Bay on the north shore of Anishinaabe Gitchi-Gami (Robinson-Superior Treaty lands) and spent time working with numerous local food organizations. They were involved in the local food movement extensively as a teenager when the Thunder Bay Food Strategy was endorsed in 2013. They have also been a beekeeper and passionate gardener. These formative experiences inspired them to advocate for the importance of food access in all they do.
Sarah is extremely passionate about building equitable, just, interconnected communities through the lens of co-operatives, circular economies, and sustainable networks. They believe in a housing and food-first approach, and that these things are human rights. They also believe in the transformative power of human connection through growing and sharing food.
In their free time, Sarah also enjoys hiking, reading, and making art.
