Liz Lovell

Community Food Systems Coordinator

Liz is a white queer settler currently occupying space in so-called Thunder Bay on Fort William First Nations lands. They were born and raised on the lands of the Potawatomi, Ojibwe, and Odawa in what is referred to colonially as DeKalb, Illinois.

Over the last 15 years, they have done work in advocacy, relationship building, community engagement, and community-based research in food systems, environmental contaminants, and brownfields.

Liz is extremely passionate about equity, accessibility, and Indigenous-led community-based solutions in sustainable food systems governance and food self-determination. They believe in a housing and food-first approach and that these things are human rights.

In their free time, Liz also enjoys spending time with their dog, Howie, and advocating for clean air and disability justice.
